Councillor Wendy Winchester
I moved to Suffolk from London in 1995, initially to Ipswich but then to Battisford and finally Stowmarket around 12 years ago when I met my husband Allan. Between us we have five grown up children and six grandchildren so far, a number of whom live in Stowmarket too.
I have a wide range of work experience including 10 years in Social Services for Suffolk County Council, followed by self employment for five years when, with my husband, I opened Winchester’s Wine Bar in the town centre. I now work in an office role in the construction industry based in Woolpit. I believe my wide range of work and life experiences will be valuable in my role as a Town Councillor.
I have really put down roots in Stowmarket more than any other place I have lived from when I first moved here, it’s a great part of the wold to live in and I couldn’t imagine living anywhere else now. Through owning and running a town centre business, my roots in the town grew stronger and I really enjoyed being a part of the business community, as a result I am passionate about our town centre and have a particular interest in seeing it develop into a thriving centre.
I am a keen gardener in my spare time and a practising artist making stained glass objects and silver jewellery and I am passionate about the environment, I am a keen cook and very much enjoy good food and wine.
I am excited about becoming a Councillor and having a greater involvement in our fabulous town and very much hope that I will be an asset to the town and be able to make a difference for the people of Stowmarket.
