The Stowmarket Meadlands Men’s Shed is now up and running thanks to a funding boost from Stowmarket Town Council.
The Men’s Shed was opened on Saturday, 8th April, 2017 by The Town Mayor, Councillor Barry Humphreys MBE, he added that “The grant funding has given Stowmarket Town Council a great opportunity to support a local organisation which will benefit the whole of the town. I can’t wait to join up”.
The Meadlands Men’s Shed will provide men and women with a place to share tools and resources on projects. It is set to become a hub of skill-sharing and informal learning, of individual pursuits and community projects. Members have already come together to make benches and other woodwork items helping combat isolation, share ideas and learn new skills.
A total of £1,500 in funding has been given by Stowmarket Town Council to the Meadlands Men’s Shed project. The money has been used to purchase building materials used in the construction of the building. The ‘Shed’ is a larger version of a typical garden shed and is located at the Stowmarket Meadlands Recreation Club on Needham Road.
This is an example of one of the ways that the Town Council can support local organisations working for the benefit of the town. For more information on the grants available to organisations in Stowmarket please visit the website www.stowmarket.org or contact Stephanie Edmans on 01449 612060.
