The tree in the Market Place has had barriers placed around it  for some time now;  the reason for this is that the uneven paving slabs caused by the tree roots has presented a significant hazard to pedestrians.   Indeed there have been a number of incidents where pedestrians have tripped on the uneven slabs, sometimes resulting in injuries being sustained.

Stowmarket Town Council has actively consulted with our partners seeking a solution to this particular problem.  Following this consultation, the only available option is to remove the tree and then to reinstate the paving slabs, restoring the area to an even surface, thereby making it safe for pedestrians to use again.

New trees will shortly be planted at a number of different locations across the town.
